about

These are the steps I used to start writing songs

STEP 1: Song Fragment Instrumental Jam (Take one chord progression/beat and play it over and over)

STEP 2: Add Stream of Consciousness Vocals to Fragment (Sing whatever comes to mind over one of the fragments, without concern about meaning or vocal structure)

STEP 3: Assemble Instrumental Fragments into Complete Song (Organize a few fragments into a structured format like verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse chorus)

STEP 4: Add Stream of Consciousness Vocals to Complete Song (Sing whatever comes to mind over a full song, move toward more vocal structure and meaning)
